1988 Toyota 4runner - Front Bumper
I wanted a front bumper that would protect the front end including the radiator incase of a roll-over, but could also hold my Warn 8274-50 winch.
I like trying to do as much as i can myself, but just couldn't see making the bends needed to make the bumper I wanted and did not see buying a tubing bender just to make a rear bumper.
So I searched around and came across CBI Off-Road. Steve was great and came up with the design.
Couldn't be happier.
This is the bumper on the model jeep - CBI is 3,500 miles away
Taking the old pipe stinger off
Put a hole in the radiator so I ordered up a 3 core from RadiatorBarn.com
I cut a big W in the mounting plate and a vertical slot on either end to help hold bumper on when the winch is under load.
I also mounted it with 4 grade 8 1/2" bolts and hardware to hold the bumper on while welding.
Tight fit with the winch installed
Finally got the brake back on - this is a great write-up on how to rebuild a 8274 that I used to understand how to put the brake on.
The spring really is tough and makes it just about impossible to install by yourself, so this is what I did.
I used thick electrical tape (yes that is electrical and not duct tape) to hold it all together.
Cut out the centers
then used 2 ratchet straps to pull it all tight
Worked like a charm
Oh - and I also received my radiator in 2 days from order.
Install took 30-45 minutes
